With fewer newborns Scottish male names in English are being given Jack’s name in recent decades, this year’s top baby boy name was still Jack. With fewer newborns and more options for parents, baby names for both genders are becoming more diverse.

When it came to mothers over 35, Jack was number two, but he was number seventeenth in the rankings when it came to mothers under 25. One in fifty baby boys was given a unique name in 1974. Thirteen-year-old Jack was once again most popular for boys. Following James in third place was a six-place increase in Noah’s popularity, making him the second most popular name for a baby boy.

The most popular names for girls and boys were Olivia and Noah, among those whose mothers were under the age of twenty-five. James and Isabella were the most popular names for expectant mothers over 35.
